Iqra University Unveils Its Premium Law School at the Main Campus, Karachi

Iqra University has formally entered Pakistan’s legal education landscape with the launch of Iqra Law School, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s 25-year academic journey. The initiative begins with the induction of its first-ever LLB batch, Class of 2029, positioning the university among institutions offering premium legal education in the country.

A New Chapter in Legal Education

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Nassar Ikram, who addressed students, faculty members, and academic leadership, highlighting the broader vision behind the establishment of the law school. He described the launch as a step toward strengthening Pakistan’s legal ecosystem by producing well-trained, ethical, and globally competent legal professionals.

First Batch, Foundational Responsibility

Addressing the inaugural batch, the Vice Chancellor underscored the symbolic importance of being the founding cohort, noting that their role would extend far beyond academic performance. “You are the founders of this Law School’s legacy. You will write its chapter with integrity, excellence and vision,” he told the students, emphasizing that the LLB program was introduced not merely to expand educational offerings, but to respond to a national need for lawyers equipped with strategic thinking, ethical grounding, and international exposure.

Drawing Inspiration from Pakistan’s Legal Icons

During his address, Dr Ikram referenced renowned Pakistani jurists, including Justice Hamoodur Rahman, Justice Dorab Patel, and Justice Rana Bhagwandas, citing their integrity, impartiality, and commitment to justice as benchmarks for aspiring legal professionals.

Law Beyond the Courtroom

He further highlighted that law extends beyond courtroom litigation, stressing its role in governance, policy-making, international arbitration, and the protection of national interests. Drawing attention to high-stakes international legal disputes, he noted that weak legal strategies have cost countries billions. “The country needs lawyers who can shape national policy, so don’t limit yourself to courtrooms. You must become the national interest, the ones who operate on the global stage,” he said, reinforcing the need for globally capable legal minds.

Building a Premium Law School

Iqra Law School has been established following extensive planning and academic research, with a stated focus on quality, ethics, and professional relevance. The school is led by Justice (Retd.) Nadeem Akhtar, Dean of the Law School, who brings decades of judicial and legal experience to its academic leadership.

Vision for the Future

According to the university, the long-term objective is to develop Iqra Law School into a premium seat of legal learning in Pakistan, supported by experienced faculty, practical legal training, international linkages, and a values-driven curriculum.

A New Era Begins

The launch signals a new chapter in Pakistan’s legal education sector, with the inaugural batch expected to set the tone for future cohorts. As legal education continues to evolve, initiatives like this aim to contribute toward a stronger, more principled justice system in the country.
