Microsoft has started rolling out a set of new features for its Link to Windows app, expanding how Android phones can interact with Windows 11 PCs. The update adds remote PC locking, improved file sharing, screen mirroring, and deeper system integration.
According to Windows Latest, Microsoft began rolling out the new features during the second week of December. Users can access them by updating the Link to Windows app on Android to the latest version. The rollout is happening gradually.
One of the most notable additions is the ability to lock a Windows 11 PC remotely using an Android phone. The updated app introduces a dedicated “Lock PC” button, which locks the connected computer within seconds, even when the user is not physically nearby.
The update also introduces new options for transferring files between devices. Users can now send files from their Android phone to a Windows 11 PC and vice versa. In addition, clipboard sharing has been expanded, allowing users to copy and paste both text and images seamlessly between their phone and PC.
Screen mirroring is now accessible with a single tap, making it easier to view and control the phone’s display directly from the desktop.
A new recent activity panel shows files and links that were shared between devices, offering a quick overview of recent cross-device actions.
The Link to Windows app now displays select system information from the connected PC. Android users can see the laptop’s battery level and Wi-Fi signal strength, with the data refreshing approximately every minute.
Some of these features previously appeared in testing and beta releases last month. Microsoft is now rolling out the full update to all Phone Link users, though availability may vary during the staged deployment.
To check for updates, Microsoft instructs Android users to open their phone’s Settings, navigate to Advanced features, tap Link to Windows, then select the three-dot menu and choose About Link to Windows. From there, users can check for and install any available updates.
For those who have not yet set up Phone Link on Windows 11, Microsoft offers guidance on enabling the feature, which now includes a dedicated side panel accessible from the Start menu.
