Nick Jonas has surprised fans by spotlighting Pakistani pop icon Nazia Hassan, after a backstage dance video of him went viral all over social media.
As part of his ongoing pre-show ritual on the JONAS20 Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, the 33-year-old American singer and actor shared a fresh clip on Instagram.
In the video, captioned “tonight’s pre-show hype song,” Nick can be seen jamming to Nazia Hassan’s Aap Jaisa Koi alongside his wife Priyanka Chopra and his brothers Kevin and Joe Jonas.
The short reel, recorded just before the trio hit the UBS Arena stage in Belmont Park, New York, on Sunday, December 21, runs for around 15 seconds. It begins with the Jonas brothers in the frame, before Priyanka jumps in, dancing to the classic track made famous by South Asia’s pioneering pop star.
One of the greatest pop stars of her generation, Nazia Hassan was a Pakistani singer-songwriter and qualified lawyer who passed away on August 13, 2000, at just 35 years old.
Widely celebrated as the subcontinent’s first true pop sensation, she remains one of the most influential figures in Pakistan’s music history. Affectionately remembered as the “Sweetheart of Pakistan,” Nazia delivered a string of chart-topping hits, including Dosti, Boom Boom, Disco Deewane, Aankhen Milane Wale, and Dum Dum Dee Dee, among many others.
