Samsung is reportedly preparing a new foldable smartphone with a wider form factor, a move that appears aimed at countering Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone.
According to a new report, Samsung is working on a foldable phone with a noticeably wide inner display. The device is said to feature a 7.6-inch OLED inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a passport-style folding design. The handset is reportedly planned for release next year.
The screen size and aspect ratio closely match those rumored for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, often referred to as the iPhone Fold, which is expected to feature a 7.58-inch inner display.
The report adds that Samsung’s wide foldable will include a 5.4-inch cover screen. Wireless charging support is said to top out at 25W. The image below has been sourced from SammyGuru.
Notably, a leak from last week appeared to support these claims. According to that report, Samsung shared images of an unreleased foldable device as part of an internal survey focused on exploring different foldable form factors. The images reportedly showed a wider-than-usual foldable design, aligning with the latest information.
While Samsung has not officially confirmed the device, the report suggests the company is actively experimenting with wider foldable formats as competition in the segment increases, particularly with Apple expected to enter the foldable market.
