Islamabad Bans Heavy Traffic for 18 Hours

The Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a special advisory for heavy vehicles on 26 December, as part of security and traffic management measures in the federal capital.

According to the announcement, the entry of all categories of heavy traffic into Islamabad will remain suspended from 6:00 am until 12:30 am.

Trucks, trailers, container carriers, and other large commercial vehicles have been directed to stay off the main entry routes to the city during this period to avoid congestion.

Authorities say the arrangement is designed to keep traffic flowing on key arteries that are already operating under a diversion and security plan due to high-level movements and related activities in the capital.

The advisory for heavy traffic coincides with an earlier traffic plan affecting the Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road, and Club Road, where diversions have been placed, and motorists have been urged to factor in an additional 20 to 25 minutes of travel time.

Officials have linked these measures to high-profile engagements in the city, including the visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates, for which 26 December had been declared a local holiday in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

For more information or traffic guidance, citizens can contact the Islamabad Traffic Police Helpline at 1915 or call Pukar-15, where officers will be available to assist road users.
