Virat Kohli Breaks Another Tendulkar Record

Virat Kohli has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach 16,000 runs in India’s List A cricket.

Kohli achieved the milestone in his 330th innings during Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Andhra in Bengaluru.

Tendulkar had reached 16,000 List A runs in 391 innings and finished his career with 21,999 runs from 538 innings across 551 List A matches. Of those, 18,426 runs came in 452 ODI innings. Kohli currently has 14,557 runs from 296 ODI innings.

With this achievement, Kohli now holds the record for being the fastest batter to reach every 1,000-run milestone in List A cricket from 10,000 runs onwards.

Tendulkar and Kohli are the only Indian players in the top five list of the fastest to 16,000 List A runs. The others are Gordon Greenidge with 422 innings, Ricky Ponting with 430 innings, and Graham Gooch and Viv Richards with 435 innings.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also delivered a landmark performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Playing for Mumbai, he scored a century against Sikkim in Jaipur, matching David Warner’s record of nine scores of 150 or more in List A cricket.

Rohit’s century also placed him as the second-oldest player to score a hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy history, at 38 years and 238 days.

The record belongs to Bengal’s Anustup Majumdar, who scored two centuries in the 2023–24 season after turning 39.

Rohit finished unbeaten on 155 off 94 balls, having reached his century in just 62 deliveries. His innings included 18 fours and nine sixes as Mumbai won the match by eight wickets.

Both Kohli and Rohit, who have retired from Test and T20I cricket, remain in the race for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
