Hackers Forced Ubisoft to Take Down Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft took down its popular shooter game Rainbow Six Siege to contain and reverse the effects of a widespread breach that disrupted the game’s in-game economy and account systems.

On Sunday, Rainbow Six Siege’s official status page continued to list an “unplanned outage” across all platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The outage follows reports from players who suddenly found their accounts showing either zero or billions of R6 credits, access to ultra-rare weapon skins, and unexpected account bans or unbans.

The issue surfaced on Saturday when Ubisoft posted on X that it was “aware of an incident currently affecting Rainbow Six Siege” and was working on a fix. A few hours later, Ubisoft shut down the game’s servers as player reports continued to spread online.

Screenshots and videos shared by users showed accounts flooded with in-game currency and rare cosmetic items. Some players also reported being banned, while others said previous bans had been lifted without explanation.

Later on Saturday afternoon, Ubisoft clarified that players would not be penalized for spending the incorrectly granted credits. The company confirmed that it would roll back all transactions starting from Saturday.

On early Monday morning, Ubisoft updated players, confirming that a rollback process was actively underway. The company said it is conducting extensive quality control testing to ensure account integrity and verify that the changes are effective.

Ubisoft added that the situation is being handled “with extreme care,” noting that it cannot guarantee a specific timeline for when servers will return online. No estimate has been provided for the restoration of service.

The company has not shared details about the cause of the breach but indicated that further updates will be issued once the rollback and testing process is complete.
