The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Rawalpindi Division carried out a large-scale inspection at the Kallar Kahar service area on the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M2) on Monday and fined three food outlets for violating food safety rules.
Inspection teams examined six outlets during the operation, which the Additional Director General oversaw. The teams reviewed hygiene conditions, food quality, and compliance with safety standards.
Officials identified serious violations at three outlets and imposed fines totaling Rs175,000. Authorities penalized the businesses for storing expired food items, using China salt, and selling milk that failed to meet safety standards.
The PFA said it remains committed to ensuring the availability of safe and hygienic food for travelers at motorway service areas and will not allow any compromise on public health.
Inspectors issued on-the-spot penalties and gave strict directions to food business operators to address the violations immediately.
The PFA also encouraged the public to report complaints about unhygienic or unsafe food by calling its helpline at 1223, allowing authorities to respond promptly.
