Punjab Education Minister Announces Laptops for Students of Private Institutes

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared 2025 as a year of major reforms to improve education, announcing that the government has decided to distribute 10,000 laptops to students of private educational institutions as well.

Speaking about the performance of the Education Department, the minister said that, like the previous year, 2025 focused on strengthening the education sector. He revealed that the government eliminated 2 million ghost enrollments and addressed the teacher shortage through the rationalization of 26,000 teachers.

Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government introduced historic syllabus reforms, implemented examination reforms, and shifted examination boards to e-marking systems.

He added that the Punjab government prioritized Early Childhood Education (ECE) by establishing ECE rooms in 10,000 schools and providing daily nutrition to 1.1 million students under the school nutrition program.

According to the minister, the government upgraded 268 schools, resolved 37 harassment cases involving teachers, and expanded the laptop scheme to include private-sector students.

He also said that principals were appointed on merit in 450 colleges, while the process of appointing vice chancellors in 29 universities has been completed.

The minister emphasized that these initiatives aim to improve access, quality, and governance across Punjab’s education system.
