The Lahore City Traffic Police has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan for New Year’s Eve, aiming to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety across the city during celebrations.
On the directives of CTO Lahore Dr. Athar Waheed, extensive arrangements have been finalized, with 20 DSPs and more than 1,400 inspectors and traffic wardens deployed under the supervision of zonal and divisional officers. In addition, administrative staff have also been assigned on-ground duties to strengthen traffic control measures.
According to traffic police officials, extra personnel have been stationed at major roads, intersections, and flyovers, including Azadi Flyover, Liberty Chowk, Defense Main Boulevard, Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Main Boulevard, Gulberg.
Special attention has been given to entry and exit points on Mall Road to prevent congestion during peak hours.
The Traffic Response Unit will remain on high alert throughout the night to tackle issues such as wrong parking and traffic bottlenecks, ensuring that vehicle movement is not disrupted.
CTO Dr. Athar Waheed has issued clear instructions for strict legal action against individuals involved in road blockages, reckless driving, drifting, one-wheeling, and dangerous stunts. Offenders will be identified with the help of Safe City surveillance cameras, and cases will be registered against violators under a zero-tolerance policy.
Dr. Waheed also urged parents to closely monitor their children during New Year’s celebrations, warning that motorcycles driven by underage riders will be confiscated immediately to prevent accidents and untoward incidents.
