Interior Minister Announces New Development Projects for Islamabad

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday outlined an ambitious development roadmap for Islamabad, announcing a surge in new projects in 2026 under the upcoming Vision 2027 program.

Speaking to the media during the opening of the Shaheen Chowk underpass, Naqvi said the government will unveil Vision 2027 in January. He described it as a two year development plan that will prioritize beautification, expanded greenery, improved parks, and new recreational facilities across the capital.

Naqvi said authorities plan to complete double the number of development projects in 2026 compared to those completed in 2025. He added that the government aims to end what he described as Islamabad’s dull image by focusing on entertainment, public spaces, and urban aesthetics.

The interior minister said top restaurant chains will open outlets in the capital in the coming year. He said government teams have already visited Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities to invite major brands to expand into Islamabad. He also announced plans to establish a new convention center and an expo center in 2026.

Naqvi said the government will continue to enhance greenery under Vision 2027 and will protect trees during development work. He said authorities will plant 100 saplings for every tree removed and adjust project designs where possible to avoid cutting trees.

  • Government need to add boats or small ships to change image of Islamabad. Just like European cities, add ships in rawal lake , so that people sit and enjoy food on them.

  • Please focus on footpaths in streets of regular CDA sectors like D12 to construct micro avoid encroachments and to provide facilities finders, youth and women to walk freely and safely. Streetlights please – even after decades no street lights and footpaths in many sectors. Big projects are fine but basic facilities are also essential. Appreciate the great work done on interchanges and roads which are also required in other areas too.
