OnePlus 16 Could Set New Smartphone Refresh Rate Record

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 15 in late October, but early leaks about its successor have already begun to surface. After a recent report suggesting the OnePlus 16 could feature a 200MP camera sensor, a new rumor now points to a major upgrade on the display side.

According to the latest leak, OnePlus has started testing a display with a refresh rate of at least 200Hz for its next flagship smartphone. The exact refresh rate remains unclear, as the source did not specify whether the panel could go higher. A means a 240Hz panel remains a possibility, but this has not been confirmed.

Potential Industry First

Even at 200Hz, the display would represent the highest refresh rate ever used in a smartphone. However, questions remain about real world use, including how many games or applications would support such a high refresh rate and whether users would be able to force apps to run at the maximum level.

Battery impact is also a consideration, though the report notes that newer silicon carbon battery technology with higher capacity could help reduce concerns around increased power consumption.

OnePlus has not commented on the report, and the specifications of the OnePlus 16 remain unconfirmed at this stage.
