Traffic Police to Purchase 8,000 Body Cameras to Ensure Video-Based Challans

Authorities have decided to purchase 8,000 modern body cameras to monitor the conduct of traffic wardens and make the issuance of traffic challans mandatory with video evidence.

A senior traffic police official said that every challan will be backed by video proof, and traffic wardens will be equipped with body cameras to ensure transparency.

The cameras will feature night vision and audio recording, enabling clear video documentation during both day and night.

The official said the cameras will not only record violations but also monitor the behavior of both traffic wardens and citizens, helping improve accountability on both sides.

Under the new system, a QR code-linked video of the violation will be sent directly to the concerned citizen’s mobile phone number with each challan, further enhancing transparency and trust.

All body cameras will be connected to district control rooms and a central control room for real-time monitoring and data storage.

The DIG Traffic said that 3,000 body cameras have already been procured, while the remaining units will be purchased within the current financial year. Officials believe the initiative will significantly strengthen traffic law enforcement and improve public confidence in the system.
