Private Firm Health Inspectors to Get Tabs Worth Rs. 1.5 Billion

Community Health Inspectors (CHIs) employed by private firms will be provided government-funded tablets, despite the Community Health Inspector Program being outsourced on a contractual basis.

According to official details, in the first phase, the government has procured 30,000 tablets worth over Rs1.5 billion from the public exchequer.

These tablets will be used by temporary employees of private firms working under the Community Health Inspector Program.

Sources further revealed that, in addition to the cost of tablets, the private firm operating the program is being paid a separate, substantial amount to manage and run the initiative.

Moreover, preparations are already underway to purchase additional tablets for daily-wage (daily wages-based) Community Health Inspectors, indicating a further financial burden on the government.

The development has raised questions over the outsourcing model, as government funds are being used to provide equipment for staff hired by private contractors.
