English County Club Signs Another Pakistani Pacer

Mohammad Ali has signed a short-term, multi-format contract with Nottinghamshire for the final two months of the 2026 season.

The 33-year-old Pakistan seamer is set to arrive at the start of August and will be available for selection in both the Rothesay County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup until the end of the season.

Ali brings significant experience, having taken more than 300 career wickets at an average of 24.65. He has represented Pakistan in all three international formats, most recently featuring in a One Day International against New Zealand in March last year.

Speaking on his move, Ali said he was pleased to be joining Nottinghamshire and excited about the opportunity to play county cricket and gain experience in English conditions.

He added that playing at Trent Bridge, one of the most well-known grounds in world cricket, was something he was particularly looking forward to, and said he hoped to contribute to the club’s success.

Ali is already familiar to the Nottinghamshire coaching staff. He previously worked under Assistant Head Coach Paul Franks during the 2022–23 Pakistani domestic season, when Franks coached the Central Punjab side.

During that campaign’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s domestic first-class competition, Ali finished as the fifth-highest wicket-taker, claiming 24 wickets at an average of 25.54.

He followed that with six wickets in five matches in the domestic 50-over competition, including figures of 2 for 31 in the final, as Central Punjab lifted the title under Franks’ guidance.

Ali said he enjoyed working with Franks in the past and is looking forward to doing so again across different formats.

He added that the chance to play both red-ball and white-ball cricket is exciting, and that he is eager to help the team during an important stage of the season.
