New Report Raises Fresh Doubts Over GTA 6 Launch Date

The possibility of another delay for Grand Theft Auto VI has resurfaced just days into 2026, despite earlier expectations that the game’s November 19 release date was largely settled.

Rockstar Games has already pushed back GTA 6 twice. The game was initially planned for release in 2025 before being delayed to May 2026. Late last year, Rockstar confirmed a further delay, setting a new launch date of November 19, 2026. Each delay has been framed as necessary to meet the studio’s quality standards.

Third Delay?

Concerns about a potential third delay emerged after comments from Jason Schreier during a recent episode of the gaming podcast Button Mash. Schreier said that, based on his information, the game is still not fully content-complete.

According to Schreier, teams at Rockstar are still finalizing missions and levels, and decisions are ongoing about what content will ultimately make it into the finished game. He added that Rockstar would prefer to delay the title again rather than ship it in a compromised state.

Schreier also noted that while the November 2026 date is viewed internally as more solid than previous targets, even Rockstar staff cannot say with full certainty that the game will be ready in time.

Fan Frustration Gets Worse

Unsurprisingly, the renewed uncertainty has triggered frustration among fans. Some players have questioned Rockstar’s decision to reveal the game as early as 2023, particularly if development was still far from completion.

Online reactions suggest many fans would prefer Rockstar to avoid announcing release dates until the studio is confident they can meet them. Others argue that the early reveal created unnecessary expectations and disappointment as delays continued to stack up.

When to Expect Official Announcement

Rockstar Games has not commented publicly on the latest speculation. However, its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, is scheduled to hold its next earnings call on February 3. That event may offer investors and fans some reassurance, assuming the project remains on track.
