The Sindh and federal governments have approved a large rail-based suburban transport plan to rehabilitate Sindh’s railway network and improve intercity connectivity across the province.
The decision was finalized during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, where both sides agreed to move forward with the project through close coordination.
The Sindh cabinet had already approved the Rs. 6.6 billion railway initiative in December. The plan covers an 858-kilometer rail network across six key corridors and includes funding for 100 upgraded railway crossings and the launch of six new trains in the first phase.
Under the approved plan, authorities will rehabilitate tracks along six routes: Kotri–Dadu (181 km), Dadu–Larkana–Habib Kot (166 km), Hyderabad–Mirpurkhas–Marvi (200 km), Rohri–Jacobabad (87 km), Jacobabad–Kashmore Colony (124 km), and Hyderabad–Badin (100 km).
During the meeting, the chief minister directed the immediate release of funds and confirmed that Sindh would finance the replacement of 100 manned railway crossings. He also ordered the rollout of six trains in the first phase, with six more to follow.
The federal railways minister assured full technical support and confirmed that Pakistan Railways would provide the required right of way. Both governments also agreed to finalize a 25-year partnership framework for long-term railway development.
