PIA to Reportedly Lease GE90 Engines for Boeing 777

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a tender seeking leased GE90 engines for its Boeing 777 fleet, a move aimed at strengthening engine availability as the carrier prepares for key long-haul operations.

The bid invitation comes as PIA finalizes plans for its upcoming London services, which will be operated using the Boeing 777, confirming the aircraft type for the flagship UK route.

Under the proposed schedule, the airline is set to launch Islamabad–London flights from March 29, operating three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The Lahore–London service is expected to start from March 30, with one weekly flight planned on Mondays.

The Boeing 777 is PIA’s primary widebody for long-distance routes and offers higher passenger capacity, indicating the airline’s intention to deploy a larger aircraft as it expands its international network.

Separately, the airline has also begun preliminary planning for Ramadan 2026 operations. As previously reported, PIA has floated tenders for onboard iftar supplies, such as date packets and juice packs, for both domestic and international services, with bids due in mid-January.
