Pakistan has moved closer to the launch of fifth-generation (5G) mobile services as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued the Information Memorandum (IM) for the auction of 5G spectrum.
The IM has been released in line with the policy directive issued by the federal government, marking a key regulatory step toward the introduction of next-generation mobile services in the country.
According to the PTA, the Information Memorandum outlines detailed terms and conditions for the 5G spectrum auction, including rollout obligations and service quality benchmarks. Under the proposed framework, each telecom operator will be required to install at least 1,000 new cell sites every year.
The authority has also planned a phased launch, with 5G services to be introduced initially in the federal capital and all four provincial capitals.
The IM further mandates that telecom operators migrate at least 10 percent of their existing towers to 5G technology in Islamabad and the provincial capitals during the initial phase.
PTA has also revised minimum service standards, increasing the minimum 4G speed requirement from 4 Mbps to 20 Mbps, while companies will be required to raise fixed internet speeds from 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps within the first year of implementation.
For 5G services, the Information Memorandum sets a minimum speed requirement of 50 Mbps.
PTA stated that 5G services will be expanded rapidly in major cities to support the growing demand for high-speed data, digital services, and advanced applications. Telecom companies have been given 20 days to submit their feedback and suggestions on the Information Memorandum to the authority.
PTA indicated that the final Information Memorandum will be issued after the 26th, incorporating stakeholders’ input. For the auction, a total of 597.2 MHz of spectrum across six frequency bands will be offered.
This includes 30 MHz in the 700 MHz band, 7.2 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, 40 MHz in the 2100 MHz band, 50 MHz in the 2300 MHz band, 190 MHz in the 2600 MHz band, and 280 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, which is considered critical for 5G deployment.

I am a Jazz user, and for a long time their call quality has been extremely poor. Calls disconnect within seconds, yet balance is still deducted, which feels like nothing less than financial exploitation. I registered multiple complaints, but every time I receive the same automated message claiming the issue is “resolved,” when it clearly is not.
When I contacted PTA, I was told they only register 4G-related complaints and that this issue should be reported as a financial matter. Instead of addressing these basic service failures, Jazz seems more interested in buying a cricket team. I strongly suggest they invest in fixing their core services first especially reliable call quality rather than ignoring customers who are paying for a service they are not receiving.
پہلے 3جی اور 4جی چلا لو۔
یہاں نیٹ کی سپیڈ روک رکھی ہے اور 5جی کا ڈراما شروع ہو رہا
😆
5G NSA will be worse it will show 5G icon but the actual speed will be less then real 4G not 4G+ speed. My normal 5G speed in UAE is upto 1500Mbps in NSA and in some area there is 5.5G which is base on SA and its go’s upto 3Gbps.
Where is 600MHz. ?? Most important
