Pirwadhai and Other Transport Terminals to Be Shifted

The Punjab administration has approved a major overhaul of Rawalpindi’s transport infrastructure by moving Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and dozens of other transport facilities out of the city and closer to the Rawalpindi Ring Road.

Under the plan, authorities will relocate all public transport terminals, goods transport hubs, and the Islamabad fruit and vegetable market to designated sites along the Ring Road. Officials will also shut down terminals operating inside the city, including those at Faizabad and Chungi No. 26.

The administration will strictly prohibit heavy vehicles from entering Rawalpindi and will seize any truck or bus found violating the ban. The Punjab government will take full control of Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and use it as a central terminal for inter-district, intra-city, and Rawalpindi-Islamabad routes.

Local bus services for Rawalpindi and Islamabad will originate from this terminal, with fares fixed between Rs. 20 and Rs. 50. Authorities will divert transport coming from Peshawar to a terminal near Islamabad Airport, while vehicles arriving from Punjab will access the city only through the Ring Road.

Transport from Azad Kashmir via Murree will halt near Bharakahu, and traffic from other districts will enter through Rawat. The government is completing the Ring Road stretch between Rawat and the new airport and plans further diversions once remaining sections are finished.

After relocation, public transport services will connect passengers to the city from these new terminals.

  • What is the traffic plan from north side like as Haripur, Abbottabad and Manshera

  • This decision will make travelling more expensive for poor and lower middle class people . Plz re think about it .

    • 20 and 50rs is much better in metro than 150 to 300 using wagon service from wah cantt to Islamabad!! How is it more difficult?

  • Really good.
But residents of PWD society, ghori Town, Baragoh, etc travelling to lahore and other parts of the country ( Faisalabad, etc) will face lot of problems, especially time consuming . Any proposal to provide relief to thdm

  • This totally drama and just snach money so that new properties being purchased in foreign country. So any time these culprit families runaway from Pakistan

  • بہت ہی اچھا اقدام ہے اس سے ٹریفک کے مسائل بھی حل ہو جائیں گئے اور اور دونوں شہروں میں آمدرفت بھی آسان ہو جائے گی

  • Out city transport terminals should be within city.. even developed countries have their transport system within city to support the travellers and save their time, hectic and money as well. How regular travellers can manage to travel from far distance terminals many of them travels on odd times..

  • Pathetic decision and too early. Distance, time and costs to travel will increase for common people while actual benefit will be to land owners along side ring road.

  • This project will be very much beneficial for the public. Rawalpindi will become neat and clean and free of smoke

  • These terminals will require massive space. If space issue is not considered beforehand there could be chaos.

  • Also point to be noted is that the transit transport shall still require terminals within city. Traffic will not decrease. Shifting of transit stations from Faizabad or pirwadhai etc. could destroy ecosystems depending on terminals. Govt. should think all aspects in favour of public.
