Rising batter Sameer Minhas is set to feature at the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup as Pakistan aim to lift the trophy.
Sameer began his age-group career by representing Multan Region at the U13 level during the 2018–19 season. He later captained South Punjab Under-13, guiding the team to the final, before progressing to Southern Punjab Under-16.
In the 2020–21 season, he featured in the PCB National U16 One-Day Tournament and earned selection in PCB’s 100-player development program.
His rise continued in last year’s National U19 Cup, where he scored over 400 runs in seven matches. Those performances secured him a place in the Pakistan Under-19 team.
Sameer Minhas delivered one of his standout innings in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup final, scoring a match-winning century to lead Pakistan to a dominant 191-run victory over arch-rivals India in Dubai.
He followed it up with a record-setting knock in the Zimbabwe tri-series, underlining his growing importance in the squad.
“I just wanted to contribute to the team,” Sameer said. “After my half-century, I decided to accelerate. Seeing the PCB post about the new record was an incredible feeling. Representing Pakistan and making a mark like that is something special.”
Looking ahead to the World Cup, Sameer said the team’s focus is clear. “Our simple plan is to win the World Cup.” He further added that his personal aim is to help Pakistan lift the trophy and to become player of the tournament.
Inspired by AB de Villiers for his fearless batting approach, the 19-year-old expressed confidence in Pakistan Under-19’s ability to achieve their goals. He also thanked fans for their continued support and urged them to keep backing the team throughout the tournament.
Pakistan Under-19 will begin their World Cup campaign against England on January 16, followed by matches against Scotland on January 19 and Zimbabwe on January 22.
