The upcoming 2026 Toyota Hilux Travo has reportedly been spotted in Pakistan, fueling fresh excitement among pickup enthusiasts.
The new Hilux was spotted parked at the Bhera Rest Area on the M-2 Motorway, suggesting the latest model may already be making the rounds locally ahead of its wider rollout.
Toyota has introduced the all-new ninth-generation Hilux, calling it a major update to one of its most popular global nameplates. The biggest headline is the addition of an electric variant for the first time, making it Toyota’s first body-on-frame EV. Alongside the EV, the lineup will continue to offer petrol and diesel versions for markets that still prioritize traditional powertrains.
Globally, Toyota is expected to start production of the electric Hilux by the end of 2025, while internal combustion variants are expected to reach showrooms by mid-2026.
The electric Hilux is built on Toyota’s IMV platform and is said to use a 59.2 kWh battery paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Torque output is listed at 205 Nm on the front axle and 268.6 Nm on the rear, positioning it as a work-focused EV rather than a performance pickup.
Toyota’s early figures suggest the Hilux EV will offer a range of around 240 km per charge. It can carry a payload of 715 kg and tow up to 1,600 kg. Charging speed details have not been announced yet, and Toyota has also not shared how heavy loads may affect real-world range.
For buyers who still want conventional engines, the ninth-generation Hilux retains the widely used 2.8L turbo-diesel, while a 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol option is also expected. The ICE versions are rated for a 1,000 kg payload and up to 3,500 kg towing capacity, keeping the Hilux firmly in the heavy-duty utility category.
Toyota is also pairing the diesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system to improve overall efficiency.
Visually, the new Hilux follows an evolutionary approach with a more modern shape. Up front, it gets slim LED headlamps and a piano-black grille carrying the Toyota badge. EV variants feature a closed honeycomb-style bumper, while petrol and diesel models keep a more traditional open mesh look.
The truck also rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, Toyota has updated the tail lamps, added sharper fender creases, and included a bumper design that accommodates a side step.
Inside, Toyota has finally given the Hilux the upgrade many buyers have been waiting for. The new cabin features two 12.3-inch screens, one for the digital instrument cluster and one for infotainment. Depending on the variant, features include safe exit assist, driver monitoring, a 360-degree camera, powered and ventilated seats, and wireless phone charging.
