The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the memberships of 50 Punjab Assembly lawmakers, including Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, for failing to submit their asset declarations within the stipulated deadline.
According to sources, Lahore-based MNAs Ghulam Habib Awan and Imtiaz Mehmood are also among those whose memberships have been suspended.
The ECP had given members until January 15 to submit their asset declarations. Failure to comply resulted in the immediate suspension of their assembly memberships.
The Election Commission clarified that these lawmakers will remain suspended until the submission of their asset declarations and cannot exercise any rights in the assembly during this period.
