Punjab Announces Strict Punishment Against Illegal Basant Festivities

The Punjab Home Department has issued strict directives for action against kite flying and kite manufacturing across the province.

According to the department, a complete ban on kite flying and kite making remains in force in Punjab. Violators involved in kite flying can face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to Rs2 million.

The department further warned that individuals involved in the manufacturing, sale, or transportation of kites and kite strings could face up to seven years in jail and a fine of up to Rs5 million.

However, the Home Department clarified that limited permission for Basant celebrations in Lahore has been granted only for February 6, 7, and 8. Any kite flying before these specified dates and times will be considered illegal.

Officials emphasized that kite flying or kite manufacturing before the permitted schedule poses a serious threat to human lives and will be dealt with strictly under the law.

The department has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure full implementation of the ban and take immediate action against violators.
