Pakistan has launched its first homegrown Urdu language AI model, Qalb.
Developed by Taimoor Hassan, a Pakistani student currently studying in the United States, Qalb is being described as the world’s largest Large Language Model built exclusively for the Urdu language.
The model was trained on 1.97 billion tokens and evaluated using more than seven international benchmarking frameworks.
According to its developers, Qalb outperforms existing Urdu-focused AI models on key real-world performance measures.
Hassan is a young entrepreneur who has launched and exited 13 startups. He is a former Microsoft Cup winner and has represented Pakistan at several international platforms. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from FAST University.
He is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University, where he continues to work on advanced AI and technology projects.
With more than 230 million Urdu speakers worldwide, Qalb aims to close a long-standing technology gap by enabling advanced AI capabilities in the national language. The model is designed to support local businesses, startups, education platforms, digital services, and voice-based AI agents.
Hassan said the project was part of a broader mission to contribute to Pakistan’s technological future. He added that he worked closely with his undergraduate teammates Jawad Ahmed and Muhammad Awais, and said the team plans to keep refining localized AI models for niche industries.
The team said innovation is no longer limited to large corporations. Hassan said modern technology allows small teams to build tools that educate, automate, and serve millions, without the need for massive budgets.

Oh look. More nonsense. We don’t need more LLM anymore.
Why can’t we have STEM or core tech instead of these pointless llm models.
According to recent MIT peer reviewed research, only 2.5% of overall actual projects or actually helpful research.
We are wasting our talents on llms no one needs
While we are wasting time on this. Miro haverinan a Finnish man, created fear and hunger game. And the game is extremely famous
He created the game alone himself. He copied Berserk in every way. The game gained global recognition. He didn’t use any ai for anything. He created all characters and designs himself, mostly inspired from panels created by kentaro Muira.
Today fear and hunger has global approval.
How that is something unique and who asked fot this in the first place?
A single system prompt, “Answer everything in urdu, doesn’t use a single English world unless there is no substitute” will do the job. That will hundreds of billion parameters
Well-done Taimoor Hassan.
