Traffic wardens in Lahore are now required to obtain prior permission from the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) before registering cases against any citizen, 24News reported.
According to police sources, the concerned DSP must be informed and approval secured before filing a case for any traffic violation. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed has officially briefed all City Traffic Police wardens about the new directive.
Traffic police continue to register cases for one-wheeling, one-way violations, driving without a license, commercial vehicles operating without a fitness certificate, and installing non-standard number plates.
Complaints had previously emerged over the large number of cases registered by traffic wardens against citizens.
Confusing directive. What’s the aim of wardens? Toothless eyes? What do we want to achieve by this directive? power abuses? Or lack of harmony in application of law’s clauses?
Either its not cleared in the police briefing or not covered in news reporting.
Hi Rehan. I think that traffic wardens are not trained properly. And the laws are worse . They are not clear. The laws were made for 1857, and carrying on today. How is that going to work.
An example of confusion in the implementation of laws and rules is, that my father’s car that he bought in 2003 was registered, and had a very nice, simple black ( no flowery decorations) number plate from that era, when the standardized plates rules had not been born yet.
So when a ruling is made a long time after there is no justification to change something that happened in history. But as the traffic wardens would pester us non stop 🛑, we gave up and had it changed. The car has a lot of sentimental value for us , but changing the number plates has destroyed any respect we had for the law makers and the implementers of it. This is one small example.
But all of our presidents, prime ministers and Law makers have had the laws and Islamic laws hung on the gallows.
Toothless wardens, the teeth they use are for use against people who are ignorant and who are not able to get themselves out of trouble 😵💫.
To make money 🤑 💰 💰 💰 bags for themselves and the department officials . We need road education, safety education, that which the wardens and law makers have never had and never will. Toothless or with teeth and canniness too! we are not getting anywhere in the next 50 years if we carry on like this, letting voters get away with any criminality.
Giving them jobs, and then manipulating the people and system to only serve the governing elite and their criminal cronies.
The chaos on the road is too much for any reasonable human to deal with.
Our traffic wardens need more support and backup from the bosses. I don’t think anyone gets paid enough to to do this job that will get you abused and under threat from mad traffic. Drivers and riders especially will not stop🚦 at the red light.
The job entails getting your lungs destroyed from pollution of vehicle exhaust fumes. The traffic police have dangerous difficult and dirty job to do.
I don’t know to give them a standing ovation or to despise them and the their department. Confusion all around.
