In a rare and complex surgical procedure, a senior surgeon from Nishtar Hospital successfully removed a massive 18.5-kilogram abdominal tumor from a 55-year-old woman at a private clinic in Multan.
Dr Khadim Hussain, a senior surgeon at Nishtar Hospital, operated on a patient from Muzaffargarh who was admitted with severe abdominal pain, swelling, and breathing difficulties.
Medical examinations and diagnostic tests revealed a giant ovarian tumor or cyst that had grown abnormally over time due to delayed treatment. Doctors said the size of the cancer posed serious risks to the patient’s health.
Dr Hussain explained that such tumors often develop due to hormonal imbalance, untreated ovarian cysts, age-related changes in reproductive organs, or prolonged neglect of early symptoms.
He said these conditions usually remain symptomless in the early stages, allowing the tumor to grow to a dangerous level before detection.
Despite the complexity and sensitivity of the procedure, the surgery was completed successfully. The patient’s condition is now stable, and doctors say she is recovering well and out of danger.
