Flash Flood and Snowfall Alert Issued for Northern Pakistan

A strong western disturbance is expected to affect the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January 21 to 24, which may increase the flow in streams and tributaries connected to the Kabul River.

According to the NDMA alert, heavy rainfall and snowfall may trigger flash floods in several districts, including Swat, Chitral, Buner, Shangla, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Kolai-Palas, Kohistan, and Azad Kashmir.

Recent Weather:

Heavy rainfall and snowfall were recorded in Chitral, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Patan Kohistan, and Dir.
Temperatures: Kalam (-4°C), Parachinar (-4°C), Upper Dir (0°C), Chitral (1°C), Peshawar (5°C).
Kalam received the heaviest snowfall yesterday.
Snowfall was recorded in Chitral Kalash Valleys, Lowari Tunnel, Madak Lasht, Garam Chashma, and other parts of Lower Chitral.
Lowari Tunnel area received 5 inches of snow, Chitral Kalash Valleys (Bamburet) 3 inches, Madak Lasht 4 inches, and Beghusht 5 inches.
Upper Chitral locations such as Shandur, Laspur, and Yarkhun also experienced snowfall.

Traffic Update:

Traffic on the Lowari Tunnel Road is running normally. Authorities have advised travelers to use snow chains.

Punjab Weather Forecast:

According to PDMA Punjab, heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Muree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas, with snowfall likely until January 23.
13 facilitation centers have been set up in Muree to assist tourists. Authorities urge travelers to check weather conditions before traveling.

Administrative Alert:

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed instructed all relevant departments to remain on high alert 24/7 and provide guidance and protection to tourists to avoid any unexpected disasters.
