TCL to Take Control of Sony’s TV and Audio Business

TCL has announced plans to acquire Sony’s home entertainment business, covering televisions and home audio equipment. The two companies will form a joint venture in which TCL will hold a 51% controlling stake.

According to a press release, the TCL-led venture will combine Sony’s picture and audio technology, brand value, and operational expertise with TCL’s display technology, global scale, manufacturing footprint, and cost efficiency.

Sony Branding to Remain

Under the agreement, products developed by the joint venture will continue to carry Sony branding, including the Bravia name.

The joint venture is expected to operate globally, with both companies contributing their respective strengths to product development and distribution.

The companies said the binding agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of March. Subject to regulatory approval and other partnership conditions, the new company is scheduled to begin operations in April 2027.

Neither company disclosed financial terms beyond the ownership structure.
