Heavy snowfall accompanied by rain is expected in Murree due to the influence of a western weather system. In response, the Punjab Government has issued key instructions to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth visited Murree to review arrangements and chaired a meeting with the district administration. Officials briefed the minister on preparations for snowfall, road clearance, and potential landslides.
During the briefing, authorities stated that snowfall and rain are forecast for today and tomorrow, with an expected accumulation of 12 to 20 inches of snow.
The provincial minister directed officials to complete the identification of sensitive roads and critical points and to ensure continuous monitoring of vehicles entering Murree. He emphasized that an immediate response must be ensured in case of any emergency.
The minister further instructed departments to maintain close coordination with the Pakistan Meteorological Department and obtain timely weather updates.
As part of his visit, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth inspected several roads in Murree and visited salt camps and tourist facilitation centers. He also reviewed snow-clearing and road-clearing machinery operated by the mechanical wing.
He stated that the Punjab Government remains fully active in providing facilities to tourists and local residents. A comprehensive policy is being developed to manage the expected snowstorm.
Coordination among the Highway Department, District Administration, Traffic Police, Rescue 1122, and other relevant departments has been emphasized.
The provincial minister confirmed that sufficient salt bags are available in storage rooms and that 13 tourist facilitation centers in Murree are fully operational.
The Deputy Commissioner of Murree, the Assistant Commissioner, and officers from the Highway Department and Mechanical Wing were also present during the visit.
