The government has appointed Dr Komal Lalwani, a young Hindu lady doctor from interior Sindh, to serve at the Parliament House, where she will look after the health needs of members of the national legislature.
Dr Lalwani completed her medical education at a medical college in interior Sindh. She has taken over the assignment after Dr Meena Mehak, who was transferred to Karachi following her promotion and subsequent posting at a city hospital.
Sources told The News on Wednesday that doctors assigned to the Parliament House are selected from the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH), Islamabad, with professional competence as the primary criterion.
The appointment has drawn appreciation within parliamentary circles, as it reflects inclusivity by posting a woman doctor from a minority community and rural Sindh at a key federal institution. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, who also belongs to Sindh’s urban areas, oversees the health portfolio.
