Mari Energies Announces Gas Discovery in Balochistan

Mari Energies Limited has announced a new gas discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well in the Kalchas South Block, located in Dera Bugti district of Balochistan, according to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The Kalchas South joint venture is operated by United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) with a 46% working interest, while Mari Energies holds 44%, and Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Limited (DPL) owns the remaining 10% stake.

Tibri-1 is the first exploratory well drilled in the Kalchas South Block. The well was spudded on November 11, 2025, and drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet, the filing said.

Initial testing of the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone (SML) formation showed promising results. The well flowed 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a 64/64″ choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 561 psig, and 6.5 MMSCFD at a 32/64″ choke with a pressure of 1,161 psig. Further testing is underway to evaluate the well’s potential fully, the company added.

Mari Energies noted that the area had remained dormant for a long period due to security challenges. However, after the joint venture acquired DPL’s working interest in July 2023, exploration activities resumed, leading to the discovery of Tibri-1.

The company said the discovery highlights the joint venture’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources and strengthening the country’s energy supply base.
