The Punjab government has taken a major step to strengthen security and improve patient safety in hospitals across the province.
Under new directives, all security cameras installed in emergency departments and outpatient departments (OPDs) of hospitals operating under the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department will now be connected to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s (PSCA) integrated command, control, and communications network.
Hospitals have been instructed to provide full cooperation and necessary support to PSCA teams from Lahore to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the camera integration process.
According to the official notification, existing CCTV cameras will be linked to the Safe City monitoring system. Where current surveillance infrastructure is insufficient, additional cameras will be installed to ensure full coverage of emergency and OPD areas.
The orders have been issued to vice chancellors of medical universities, principals and deans of medical colleges, heads of specialized medical institutions, nursing and allied health institutions, executive directors, heads of institutions, and medical superintendents of teaching hospitals, directing them to implement the decision without delay.
The PSCA already operates thousands of high-resolution cameras across major cities, including Lahore, supporting real-time monitoring, faster emergency response, and evidence collection for law enforcement purposes.
Officials say the initiative aims to prevent violence against healthcare workers, reduce theft and misuse of medical resources, improve response times during incidents, and create a safer environment for patients, staff, and visitors in high-traffic hospital areas.
