The Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday approved the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2026, signaling major changes in policies regarding motorcycle riding by minors in the province.
Under the approved bill, children aged 16 will now be legally allowed to ride motorcycles. The committee also approved the introduction of a Juvenile Driving Permit for underage riders, establishing a separate and structured legal framework for motorcycle riders aged 16 to 18.
The proposed law mandates that the relevant licensing authority issue juvenile driving permits and ensures that riders comply with specific conditions, supervision mechanisms, and safety regulations.
The bill aims to curb the growing trend of unlicensed underage driving, enhance road safety, and reduce traffic accidents. The amendment also includes proposed changes to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965.
Following the committee’s approval, the bill will now be presented in the Punjab Assembly, where it will become law once it receives final approval.
