Multan Clock Tower Reopens After Restoration

The Punjab government on Tuesday reopened the historic Multan Clock Tower after completing its restoration and beautification.

South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Fawad Hashim Rabbani, US Consul General Stetson Sanders, Public Diplomacy Officer Raquel King Nicudemus, and Multan Commissioner Amir Kareem Khan inaugurated the landmark.

The US government supported the restoration through its Cultural Heritage Preservation Program, with technical assistance from the private organisation THAAP. The project focused on restoring the clock tower to its original condition.

Mr Rabbani described the clock tower as a significant heritage site of south Punjab, appreciated the US government’s support, and called for similar initiatives to preserve other historical landmarks.

Sanders said the project took one year to complete and cost $200,000. He added that the initiative also provided apprenticeship training to 150 craftsmen.

He further stated that the US government has supported the restoration of 35 historic sites across Pakistan, with total funding of $8.4 million under various cultural preservation programs.
