The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated steps to address chronic traffic congestion at Kashmir Chowk and its surrounding areas by seeking requests for proposals (RFPs) from consultancy firms. The junction, which currently operates without traffic signals, has become a major bottleneck due to high traffic volume and unregulated vehicle movement.
Under the RFP, the selected consultant will conduct comprehensive traffic and engineering studies to assess existing flow patterns, road capacity, and structural constraints in and around Kashmir Chowk.
The assessment will also cover pedestrian movement, public transport operations, and safety issues arising from the current traffic configuration.
The consultancy will be required to propose both short-term and long-term infrastructure-based solutions, including options such as construction of an underpass, flyover, or other grade-separated facilities to improve traffic flow. Recommendations may also include geometric road improvements and access management measures, excluding signal-based interventions.
CDA officials said the study is aimed at identifying sustainable solutions to reduce congestion and travel delays at one of Islamabad’s key intersections. Implementation of the proposed measures will be undertaken in phases after technical evaluation and approvals, subject to funding availability.
