Motorola Finally Joins The Big Battery Trend With Moto G17 Series

Motorola has expanded its mid-range lineup with the launch of the Moto G17 and Moto G17 Power. The two smartphones focus on long battery life, capable camera hardware, and a practical feature set aimed at everyday use. They are designed for users who want dependable performance and modern software without stepping into higher-priced segments.

Both devices debuted alongside the Moto G77 and Moto G67, which we will cover in a separate article.

Design and Display

The Moto G17 series features a large 6.72-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is intended for video streaming, reading, and casual gaming, while maintaining durability for daily use.

In terms of build, the Moto G17s measures 165.67 x 75.98 x 8.17mm and weighs 189.9g. The phones carry an IP64 rating, offering dust resistance and protection against water splashes.

Color options for the Vanilla G17 include Pantone Bordeaux, Pantone Alaskan Blue, and Pantone Evening Blue. Whereas the official names of the Moto G17 Power were not disclosed but given away by the images the 3 available colors out of which 2 colors appear to be similar to the Vanilla G17’s being the Alaskan Blue, and Pantone Evening Blue, While the third color appears to resemble Muddy Green.

Internals and Software

Both the Moto G17 and Moto G17 Power are powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme chipset. The processor features an octa-core CPU with two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 1.7GHz. Graphics are handled by an Arm Mali-G52 MC2 GPU clocked at 820MHz.

The phones run Android 15 out of the box. Memory configurations include 4GB or 8GB of physical RAM, supported by Motorola’s RAM Boost feature, which allows the use of internal storage as virtual RAM. Depending on the variant, users can add up to 8GB or 16GB of extra virtual memory. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB, with microSD card expansion supported up to 1TB.

Cameras

Camera hardware is a key highlight of the Moto G17 lineup. On the rear, the phones feature a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, 0.8µm pixel size, and 1.6µm effective pixels after pixel binning. This is paired with a 5MP ultra-wide camera featuring an f/1.88 aperture and 0.8µm pixels. A third rear sensor is used for ambient light detection and flicker reduction.

Camera features include HDR, Night Vision, Pro Mode, Panorama, Portrait, Live Filters, Watermark, Timer, and Google Lens integration. Video options cover standard recording, time-lapse, and slow-motion capture.

On the front, the phones include a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 0.7µm pixel size. The front camera supports HDR, full HD video recording at 30fps, face retouching, leveling tools, and assistive grid options.

Battery and Pricing

Battery capacity is one of the main differences between the two models. The Moto G17 is equipped with a 5,200 mAh battery and supports 18W TurboPower charging via USB Type-C. The Moto G17 Power increases capacity to 6,000 mAh and adds faster 30W TurboPower charging.

The Moto G17 and Moto G17 Power are launching in select EMEA markets. In the UK, the Moto G17 starts at £149.99 for the 4GB/128GB variant. In Germany, the 8GB/128GB model is priced at €199.99. Motorola has not yet announced pricing details for the Moto G17 Power.

Pricing in European markets is usually higher than in other regions, so we can expect these phones to be cheaper in other countries.
