Kite String Seriously Injures Child in Lahore

A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a kite string in Lahore’s Valencia Town, highlighting ongoing concerns over illegal kite flying in the city.

The incident took place in L-Block, Valencia Town, where the child, identified as Mustafa Afandi, was playing with friends when a kite string cut into his neck. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors provided prompt medical treatment.

Hospital officials later confirmed that the child’s condition was out of danger, and he was discharged the same evening after receiving care.

Meanwhile, police arrested 11 people for selling kites illegally in the Shahdara Town and Ravi Road areas of Lahore. During the operations, authorities recovered 1,520 kites and 27 reels of banned chemical string.

Six suspects were arrested in Shahdara Town, where police seized 900 kites and 17 reels of prohibited chemical string. Five others were taken into custody from the Ravi Road area, with 620 kites and 10 reels of chemical string recovered.

According to the SSP City, the accused were supplying kites using loader trucks, rickshaws, and other vehicles. Separate cases have been registered against all suspects.

Taking strict notice of the incidents, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered authorities to identify those involved in illegal kite flying through Safe City cameras. He also directed police to intensify the crackdown across Lahore.

The DIG stated that kite flying is completely banned except on officially permitted days and warned that violations of the Kite Flying Act pose serious threats to human life. He added that a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly enforced.
