Met Department Predicts Likely Starting Date for Ramadan 2026

The Meteorological Department has released its forecast for the Ramadan moon, indicating that the first day of Ramadan in Pakistan is likely to fall on February 19, 2026.

According to the department, there is a strong chance the crescent will be sighted on the evening of February 18. It said the new moon will be born on February 17, 2026 at 5:01 pm.

Sharing city-specific details, the department noted that in Karachi, the moon’s age on February 18 is expected to be around 26 hours.

It also provided the key timings for visibility: sunset is expected at 6:25 pm, while moonset is expected at 7:24 pm, offering a window after sunset for possible sighting.

The department added that partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the country. It also noted that, as a general requirement, the moon’s age needs to be more than 19 hours for sighting to be possible.

As always, the official start of Ramadan will depend on the formal moon-sighting process.
