The Islamabad Food Authority sealed a bakery’s industrial unit in Sector I-10 after an inspection revealed serious violations of food safety and hygiene regulations, according to a report by the Associated Press of Pakistan.
An official told APP on Friday that inspectors found broken hatchery eggs being used during production. The team also observed heavy carbon buildup on walls, ceilings, and baking trays. Peeling paint was seen falling directly into food preparation areas.
The inspection further uncovered fungus inside freezers, cigarette butts scattered on the floor, and a large number of flies, indicating poor sanitation and weak pest control measures.
Officials said the bakery’s products did not carry manufacturing or expiry dates. The unit was also unable to provide mandatory documentation, including traceability records, pest management logs, cleaning records, laboratory test reports, and medical screening records for staff.
The bakery was operating without a valid Islamabad Food Authority license, prompting officials to seal the facility immediately to prevent the distribution of unsafe food. In addition, the license of a stall run by the same bakery at the H-9 weekly bazaar has been canceled.
The food authority reiterated its zero tolerance policy against unsafe food practices and said inspections and legal action would continue to protect public health. Food business operators were advised to strictly follow food safety laws, hygiene standards, and licensing requirements.
