Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has expressed deep disappointment after his brother, Umar Akmal, was not included in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) player auction.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Kamran Akmal described the system as “unfair” and questioned why Umar Akmal’s name was missing from the auction despite completing the registration process. His post quickly drew attention and sparked widespread debate among cricket fans.
Unfair system….disappointed !!!!
Why was @Umar96Akmal’s name not in auction???#JusticeforUmarAkmal@TheRealPCB @thePSLt20 @MohsinnaqviC42— Kamran Akmal (@KamiAkmal23) February 11, 2026
According to the official players’ registration list published by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Umar Akmal had registered for the PSL 2026 auction. However, his name did not appear in the final group of players available for bidding during the auction event.
Umar has played 41 PSL matches in previous seasons, scoring 1,029 runs at a strike rate of 144.32. Supporters argue that his experience and aggressive batting record made his omission surprising.
Many fans backed Kamran Akmal’s stance, calling the decision disappointing. Supporters highlighted Umar’s past PSL performances and said experienced domestic players deserve opportunities in a competitive league.
Some social media users demanded transparency from league organizers and asked the PCB to clarify how the final auction list was finalized. Others pointed out that Umar had formally registered, which, in their view, should have at least secured him a place in the bidding pool.
At the same time, several fans defended the PSL system. Some argued that registration does not guarantee inclusion in the final auction list and that franchises have the right to decide based on current team needs and strategy.
Others noted that player selection in an auction format is performance-based and market-driven, meaning teams may choose younger or more in-form players.
A section of social media users also emphasized that professional leagues operate on competitive dynamics, and not every registered player can be accommodated.
Critics pointed out that Umar has struggled for consistent match-winning contributions in the latter part of his PSL career, with fluctuating averages and limited impact seasons in recent editions.
The PSL shifted from its traditional draft system to an auction format this year, giving franchises greater flexibility in building squads but also increasing competition for available spots. A total of 888 players registered for the new auction system, but not all were selected during the event held in Lahore.
