SUPARCO Announces Likely Start Date of Ramadan in Pakistan

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has stated that the first day of Ramadan is likely to fall on February 19, 2026, based on astronomical calculations.

According to Suparco, the new moon will be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01pm. At sunset on February 18, the moon’s age is expected to be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes. The time between sunset and moonset is estimated at around 59 minutes along the country’s coastal areas, increasing the possibility of visibility.

Based on these parameters, the space agency indicated that the first of Ramadan may begin on February 19, 2026.

However, Suparco clarified that the official announcement regarding the start of the holy month will be made by the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, which is the authorized body to decide based on verified witness testimonies from across the country.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department also said there is a fair chance of sighting the Ramadan crescent on the evening of February 18.

The department added that weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy or clear in most parts of the country on that day, which may support moon sighting efforts.
