Punjab to Build 1,000-Bed Children’s Hospital

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced plans to build a new 1,000-bed children’s hospital while addressing a ceremony for the CM Children Heart Surgery Program.

Speaking at the event, she said public funds would not be wasted on corruption and reaffirmed her commitment to improving healthcare services for children across the province.

CM Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude for the successful heart surgeries performed under the program. She announced that construction of the new hospital at Nawaz Sharif Medical Hospital will begin in March.

The chief minister also noted that, for the first time in Punjab, 800 kidney transplants and 200 bone marrow transplants were carried out through a transplant card system.

Maryam Nawaz thanked doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their dedication and service. She said that when she assumed office, she found 15,000 children on waiting lists for treatment and stressed that no child’s life would be lost due to delays.

She added that more than 10,400 pediatric open-heart surgeries and interventional procedures have been performed in Punjab, compared to only 300 in the program’s first year.

She also pointed to improvements in healthcare infrastructure, including the establishment of a new cath lab in Mianwali, allowing patients to receive treatment locally instead of traveling to other cities.

She emphasized strict supervision in hospitals to prevent negligence and praised doctors for their commitment to public service.

Maryam Nawaz detailed additional healthcare initiatives, including free medicines worth Rs. 100 billion, free stroke injections for patients, and Rs, 3 billion allocated for cancer treatment, including ablation procedures.

She said the children’s heart surgery program represents more than medical procedures, calling it a healthcare revolution that provides life-saving treatment at no cost to patients.
