Pakistan Hockey Team Forced to Stay in Remote Cabin With Bunk Beds

The Pakistan national hockey team was reportedly housed in a remote cabin with bunk beds and basic facilities during its ongoing tour of Australia.

The viral clips showed players staying in cramped quarters on the outskirts of Hobart, with limited amenities and multiple athletes sharing small rooms.

The footage, filmed during the team’s final days in the city, revealed makeshift accommodation described by sources as more than 90 minutes away from the main venue.

The situation stems from the controversy in Canberra, where hotel reservations were reportedly cancelled after the Pakistan Hockey Federation failed to clear payments. Players were then left to arrange inexpensive short-term rentals themselves, amid reports of a tour budget shortfall of around Rs. 10 million.

Sources familiar with the matter said the federation initially covered seven days of lodging in Hobart, but the accommodation secured was located far from the city and lacked adequate facilities for an international squad.

Players were also required to vacate their rooms early on the final day of their stay, with videos showing them packing belongings ahead of a 10:00 am checkout while preparing for upcoming fixtures.

Local community members and contacts reportedly assisted team management in arranging alternate lodging and meals after the earlier disruptions. Even when new bookings were made through online platforms, four to five players had to share a single room, and the arrangements did not span the entire duration of the stay.

The off-field difficulties coincided with a challenging run of results in the FIH Pro League, where Pakistan remained winless during the Australian leg.

The team suffered defeats against the hosts and Germany, losing matches by margins of 3–2, 3–0, 5–2, and 6–1.

Despite the setbacks, Pakistan is scheduled to resume its campaign in Europe later this year. Upcoming fixtures include matches in Belgium and Spain in mid-June, followed by encounters against traditional rivals India and England.
