Authorities in Punjab have taken strict action against 10 stage actresses accused of inappropriate dance performances to uncensored and banned songs during theater shows.
The move came after the Punjab Council of the Arts conducted e-monitoring of stage dramas and found multiple instances of performances that allegedly violated approved content guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
According to officials, several actresses were issued formal notices for performing to songs that had not been cleared by censors and were deemed inappropriate for public theater. The performers have been directed to submit written explanations within two days.
Show-cause notices have been issued to Saima Chaudhry, Afshan Khan, Iqra Khan, Hasna Jutt, Samar Malik, Masooma Malik, Jiya Chaudhry, Phool Chaudhry, Sana Malik, and Chahat Chaudhry.
All individuals have been directed to submit their written responses within two days explaining their conduct.
The council stated that such actions were taken to ensure compliance with cultural regulations and to prevent the staging of material considered unethical or outside the approved framework for theatrical productions.
In addition to issuing notices, the council has written to the district administration requesting further action, emphasizing that no individual or production would be allowed to breach established SOPs.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to monitoring stage performances closely and taking strict measures against violations to maintain what they described as “responsible and regulated entertainment” across theaters in the province.
