The Punjab School Education Department has approved the appointment of two headmasters, principals or headmistresses in every school under a plan aimed at “educational improvement.”
The department has also given final approval for the rationalization of teachers across primary, middle and high schools from August.
In addition, it has approved the outsourcing of another 5,550 primary, middle and high schools. Applications have also been invited from prospective buyers.
According to the Education Department, the appointment of two heads in every school will be completed before the end of the summer vacations.
Under the plan, each school will have one regular headmaster and one OPS, or own pay scale, headmaster.
The OPS headmaster will monitor teaching activities, ensure student attendance, submit reports on school activities to the regular headmaster, focus on academic results and work with teachers to improve the educational environment.
The regular headmaster will supervise overall school administration, monitor teachers, improve students’ academic and moral standards, prepare school development plans and maintain coordination with education officers while submitting performance reports.
Rawalpindi Executive Education Officer Yasin Baloch said the appointment of two headmasters would improve educational standards, strengthen school management, enhance students’ training and improve teachers’ performance.
