PDMA Puts Balochistan on High Alert After Series of Earthquakes

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan has initiated steps to implement the National Earthquake Guidelines 2026 after a series of tremors were recorded across the province this year.

During a meeting held on Friday, PDMA officials discussed measures to shift from reactive disaster response to a more scientific and preventive approach to earthquake management.

Authorities said the move aims to improve preparedness and reduce potential damage from future seismic events.

According to official data, several earthquakes have struck the province in 2026, with magnitudes reaching up to 5.6 on the Richter scale. The tremors mainly affected the districts of Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, and Jaffarabad.

Seismologists warned that the recent tremors could indicate the possibility of stronger aftershocks or major seismic activity in the coming weeks.

Following the warning, PDMA placed all district administrations and rescue agencies on high alert to ensure a rapid response in case of emergencies.

The authority also directed all relevant departments to submit weekly progress reports to monitor the effective implementation of the new earthquake preparedness guidelines across the province.

Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen disaster management systems and enhance the province’s readiness for potential earthquakes.
