IBA Karachi Approves Plan to Establish New Islamabad Campus

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi has decided to establish a campus in the federal capital, Islamabad.

The proposal was formally approved during a meeting of the Board of Governors held on Thursday. According to officials who briefed the board during the meeting, the process of acquiring land for the proposed campus in DHA Islamabad has almost been completed.

The board was informed that the establishment of the Islamabad campus will not require a new federal law. Instead, the existing IBA Act of 1994 (Sindh Act) will be amended to include a provision allowing the institution to operate a campus in the federal capital.

During the meeting, Secretary Boards and Universities Abbas Baloch assured participants that the necessary amendments to the law would be made as soon as possible to facilitate the establishment of the Islamabad campus.

The Board of Governors also approved the construction of 32 residential flats for IBA faculty members and employees. The project aims to address accommodation needs for the institution’s staff.

Officials said the proposed Islamabad campus is part of IBA’s broader strategy to expand its academic presence and provide executive education and postgraduate programs to professionals based in northern Pakistan, including the federal capital.

In recent years, IBA has already been offering some executive education and Executive MBA programs in Islamabad to serve senior professionals and corporate leaders in the region.

IBA Karachi, one of Pakistan’s leading business schools, was originally established in 1955 and remained part of the University of Karachi until 1994.
