Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 1.47 billion Azeempura flyover in Shah Faisal Colony, launching a development project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city’s eastern corridor.
According to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the flyover is expected to be completed within 100 days and is intended to improve traffic movement between Shah Faisal Colony and Shahrah-i-Bhutto.
Speaking to reporters at the ceremony, Wahab said the project would help commuters travelling from Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi and nearby areas, particularly those heading toward the airport corridor.
The Azeempura intersection has long been regarded as a major traffic bottleneck where vehicles from residential neighborhoods and industrial zones converge at a signalized junction.
KMC officials said the planned flyover will be around 700 meters long and will provide a grade-separated route, allowing vehicles to move across the intersection without stopping at traffic signals.
They added that the project will directly connect traffic from Shah Faisal Colony to Shahrah-i-Bhutto, reducing waiting times at signals and improving travel for thousands of commuters who use the route daily.
Wahab said the intersection acts as an important link between Shah Faisal Town and the industrial areas of Korangi, where large numbers of workers and transport vehicles travel every day.
He said construction work has now started and the city administration will try to complete the project within 100 days to provide relief to commuters as soon as possible.
First the Mayor should repair West Wharf Road going towards the Karachi Port.This is a major road wherein import export cargoes move in, and main commercial Hub.
Heavy trucks and containers are moving on this road. Needs immediate repairs.
Watching the progress with interest. Can 100-day deadline be mat.
Good initiative by Mayor of karachi to ease the traffic flow.

نئے پل بھی ضروری ہیں لیکن کیا ہی اچھا ہوتا اگر شہر کراچی کی سڑکوں کی بھی مرمت کا کام شروع کر دیا جاتا۔ شہر میں کہیں چلے جائیں سوائے وی آئی پی سڑک، شاہراہ فیصل کے علاوہ سب ٹوٙٹ پھوٹ کا شکار ہیں۔ گلیوں کی سڑکیں تو شاید کھبی بن گئیں تھیں لیکن اس کے بعد شاید کھبی انکی مرمت ہر توجہ نہیی دی گئی۔
