Chicken Prices Surge Amid Ramadan

Prices of broiler chicken continue to rise in open markets and Ramadan bazaars, putting a strain on households. The retail price of broiler chicken increased by Rs. 7 per kilogram, reaching Rs. 504 per kilogram.

Current market rates are as follows:

  • Farm rate (live broiler): Rs. 320/kg
  • Wholesale rate: Rs. 334/kg
  • Retail rate: Rs. 348/kg

Experts attribute the price hike to increased demand during Ramadan and limited supply, which is affecting the financial stability of middle- and lower-income families.

The market committee has advised consumers to avoid paying inflated prices and to purchase only from authorized shops.

The surge in inflation is particularly burdensome for salaried households, with many middle-class families cutting down on essential expenditures to manage their budgets. Analysts warn that if this trend continues, purchasing power could decline further in the coming months.
